![]() ![]() Z-Wave is probably best for security (locks, alarm systems - Ring and Adobe use it), but be sure that it is at least 700 Series and has S2 Security support. ![]() The Z-Wave protocol is however going to the 800 Series soon (from 700 currently). Not sure where Z-Wave is going relative to Matter and future smart home integration. I think I only found one Z-Wave smart bulb. If you plan on using smart bulbs, there are mostly Wi-Fi and Zigbee. I'm moving forward with Zigbee, as there appears to be more devices on the market for the protocol, traditionally cheaper, and the migration to Thread/Matter "should" be easier. The bias toward one protocol is that you have a broader mesh with potentially more reach, and less complexity of dealing with two protocols. Then we will add Thread in the coming year (maturity dependent). If you have potentially a number of both type device you can use both with HA and many folks do. If you ask around here in Reddit, it can be a bit of religious discussion. You are not alone, me too and many others. I think they jumped the gun and used an early Thread chip that may not have had all the Matter protocol hooks. Schlage did have a early Thread version for Apple Home Kit, but had to withdraw it. I'm still a couple of months away from a final selection, as the house is under construction. Although I'm having difficulty finding the Zigbee version is the style I need (match the rest of the house door hardware), so may have to go the Z-Wave direction. I'm using Home Assistant, so the Zigbee or Z-Wave is the desired way. The Schlage Connect is the way I'm going too. Schlage is probably the most secure keyed lock (ANSI Grade 1) than most other vendors. On the downside, they can be more expensive and hard to find. Long history of home security, match a lot of existing home door hardware, have had smart locks for a number of years, and have a lot of variations of smart lock style (keypad, smart phone integration, and some non key versions) and support Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Z-Wave protocols. If you are in North America, these are the three primary home lock manufacturers.
